Understanding Email Activity: Sent, Opened, and Bounced Emails
Table of contents
This guide explains the different types of email activity you might see when using our Subscription Checker. It helps you understand what "sent," "opened," and "bounced" mean for your Stitch Along emails.
What Do These Terms Mean?
- Sent: The email was successfully delivered to your email server. Check your inbox, spam, or junk folders if you can’t find it.
- Opened: The email was opened by you. If you’re looking for a specific pattern email and it’s marked as "opened," it’s in your inbox.
- Bounced: The email couldn’t be delivered. This could happen for several reasons, explained below.
Reasons for Email Bounces
Hard Bounces
A hard bounce indicates a permanent delivery issue. Common reasons include:
- The email address doesn’t exist.
- The recipient’s server has permanently blocked the email.
- The domain name of the email address doesn’t exist.
Soft Bounces
A soft bounce is a temporary delivery issue. It might occur if:
- The recipient's mailbox is full.
- The server is offline or overwhelmed with emails.
- The email content didn’t meet the recipient server’s policies.
If an address continues to soft bounce, it may eventually be converted into a hard bounce.
